This is a place to live and discover. The client is a 65 year old astronomy professor. The designated activity for this apartment space was inspired by Johannes Vermeer's painting The Astronomer. The program is discovery, study, and research.
An incomplete cube has been designed prior to this project and has been strategically placed inside the apartment. The kitchen, living, and dining areas are all adjacent, to allow for fluid movement between these spaces. The bedroom, storage and bathroom are adjacent to the kitchen but are more private for the user. The research area, library and observatory are in a separate, more secluded space in the apartment to allow for focus and lack of distraction. The mood of the space is quiet, moody, comfortable and relaxed. |
